Lagos hotelier turns job seeker into sex worker
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a hotelier, Victor Obano, for allegedly turning a 23-year-old female job seeker into a commercial sex worker in the Ijegun area of the state.
The police said Obano, who owned Tisa Hotel, allegedly lured the victim, Elizabeth, from Akwa Ibom, promising her employment in Lagos State.Obano allegedly thereafter turned the job seeker into a sex worker in the hotel.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Elizabeth, a mother of two, reportedly got tired of being a commercial sex worker, and on October 5, told her elder sister on the telephone what she was going through.
The sister was said to have informed the police at the Anti-Robbery Squad of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba, leading to Obano’s arrest.
Another accomplice, a commercial sex worker, identified as Grace Edet, who allegedly was Elizabeth’s supervisor, was also picked up by the police.
Speaking with PUNCH Metro at the command headquarters, Ikeja, Obano, who admitted to have brought the victim from Akwa Ibom, said he only assisted her to find a means of livelihood.
He said, “I am the manager of Tisa Hotel in the Ijegun waterside. I am not a human trafficker. It was only this lady that I brought from the village. I met with her father and he explained her predicament. She is 23 years old. She has two kids and she was living a miserable life. So, I decided to get a job for her.
“The police arrested me because I seized her phones. They said I did not want her to contact her family members, but I collected her phone because I did not want her to have an affair with several men.
“It was her elder sister who reported the matter to the police. The victim is with her brother presently. The arrangement was that I would be paying her and she would also hustle in the hotel and send the money to take care of her father.
“The police should let this matter be settled amicably. It is a family issue.”
The accomplice, Edet, told our correspondent that Obano had instructed her to train Elizabeth in commercial sex.
She said, “I have worked in the hotel for some years. I am a commercial sex worker. When the manager came back from Akwa Ibom earlier in the year, he returned with the lady. He handed her over to me, saying I should teach her some tricks of the trade.
“I did not know the arrangement between them. When I asked the lady why she was brought, she replied that she was asked to hustle at the hotel. So, I do not have any fault in the matter.”
A police source said Obano allegedly had more girls he used as commercial sex workers in his hotel.
Jonathan was never committed to defeating Boko Haram – Osinbajo
Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has lashed out at former President Goodluck Jonathan, saying he was never committed to ending the Boko Haram insurgency during his tenure.
Speaking in a lecture titled, “The unraveling of Boko Haram and the rebuilding of the North-East of Nigeria” which he delivered at the Harvard University’s Weatherland Centre for International Affairs, United States, he said it was not until the abduction of more than 200 secondary schoolgirls from their dormitories in Chibok that public outrage against Jonathan’s government’s inept handling of the insurgency reached its peak.
He also added that the government then incurred widespread anger when it denied that an abduction took place and suggested that the opposition had simply invented the story.
He also recalled that when was formed, the then ruling party was also quick to paint it (APC) as
He said it was not until President Muhammadu Buhari who was then the leader of the opposition, was nearly killed in an attack in Kaduna that the false narrative by PDP that the APC was the political wing of the Boko Haram sect.
The Vice-President added,
“Secondly, the ruling party also somewhat cynically seemed to have considered that since BH attacks were actually in the heartland of the opposition it was not necessarily an unwelcome development as it could only weaken the opposition.
“Third, extensive corruption in arms procurement estimated at about $15bn, ensured that the military remained poorly equipped and demoralised.
“A number of well-publicised mutinies occurred and troops involved were taken through widely unpopular court-martials.
“As the government dithered and equivocated BH proceeded to realise the objective of occupying territory and establishing Islamist states in Nigeria and in the Lake Chad basin.
“In Borno State alone, it occupied and hoisted its flag in 20 of the 27 Local Government Areas that constituted the state. In Adamawa State, BH took Mubi and some villages in Yobe State.”
He said the strongest reasons for Buhari’s victory in the March 2015 presidential election was the expectation that going by his reputation as a no-nonsense soldier, he would defeat Boko Haram and restore peace to the North-East. He said within six months of Buhari’s Presidency, the sect had been effectively dislodged from all the local governments they once held.

Bovi's thoughts on viral pre-wedding photos of Soldier and her groom--to be
Comedian and actor, Bovi has shared his thoughts on this couple's viral pre-wedding photos.Remember I posted the photos yesterday and noted some said it didn't portray the Nigerian army in good light. He wrote
I saw this picture and a few others on the blogs today. It was reported as a pre-wedding photoshoot and the characters involved are supposedly an intending couple.
Many have hailed it as creative and that just lacerates my heart because it's obvious we as a people have eventually accepted as normal that which is absolutely abnormal. A soldier, no matter the posting is ultimately trained for combat. They are programmed for battle. In brighter climes, you will never see a soldier in public. They're either in the barracks or the war front. I'm suppressing the urge to compare and contrast so I will just ask some questions. Is a soldier supposed to hold a gun or a stick? Is a soldier meant to punish a civilian? Is a soldier meant to assault? Is a soldier meant to obey traffic laws? Is a soldier meant to seize camouflage apparel worn by civilians? Is a soldier above the law? I beg to be informed. Help wipe off my ignorance. I wish the couple a happy union ! And shout out to the true soldiers out there defending the existence of Nigeria with their lives and the fine officers who have maintained the dignity of this revered profession in the face of this skewed practices!

Bishop Kukah visits EFCC,prays for Obanikoro, Abati, Fani-Kayode
Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Father Matthew Hassan Kukah, today, Monday paid an unscheduled visit to the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in Abuja, where some top-ranking Peoples Democratic Party officials, are being detained over graft-related issues.
According to Vanguard, he prayed for Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, Femi Fani-Kayode and Reuben Abati, who have been in detention for the second week running.
“I discussed with some detained suspects like Femi Fani-Kayode, Musiliu Obanikoro and Reuben Abati; and I am quite pleased they are looking cheerful.
“I was also happy with the humility of the acting Chairman who took me round and the way he interacted with the detainees. This is what is important for our country so that nobody takes these kinds of things personal. I am happy I came. “We are all staff of EFCC to the extent that we want a better country and we are doing what needs to be done. We’ll continue praying that God guides you, keeps you safe and ensure that we build a country that we all will be proud of. This country has suffered so much, but we hope and pray that we can bring the suffering and trauma to an end as we collectively fight corruption.”
The revered priest, who was conducted round the facilities by the acting Chairman of the Commission, Ibrahim Magu, expressed delight that the detainees appeared in high spirits despite the discomfort of temporary restriction. He urged them not to be downcast and to see their current travail as divine.
EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Magu, told Kukah that the work the commission was doing for Nigeria was not personal but geared towards changing the country for the better. Magu also cleared the air on the detention of the PDP top shots, saying that it was not personal.
- “It is not personal. This is all about Nigeria and making it better. And I think there is a consensus around this,” he said
