APC Govs’ bid to get automatic 2019 ticket for Buhari fails

A move by some governors on the platform of the All Progressives Congress to use the platform of the National Executive Council of the party to endorse President Muhammadu Buhari for a second term failed on Tuesday.

The APC NEC is the second highest decision-making body of the party after the national convention.

In separate interviews with reporters at the APC National Secretariat, the venue of Tuesday’s NEC meeting, the Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, Owelle Rochas Okorocha; his  Plateau and Kebbi counterparts, Simon Lalong and Atiku Bagudu, respectively said only Buhari had what it would take to fly the party’s flag in 2019.

The governors spoke before the commencement of the NEC meeting. Lalong said all the governors had agreed to work towards the President’s re-election in 2019.

He said,
“Concerning the issue of sole ticket for Mr. President, I want to say that if Mr. President is performing, well-respected and carrying everybody along, all of us have resolved that we will work for him.”
“Do we have any other person that will challenge the President again? Whatever you call it, as far as we are concerned, we have one President and that is the ticket we will fly.
“I want to assure you that you won’t see a wrangling party after the meeting. From now onwards, it will be focused governance from Mr. President and all the governors from the states. We have all resolved to support Mr. President.”

His Kebbi State counterpart, Atiku Bagudu, who was also responding to a question on whether the governors had resolved to give the President an automatic ticket, said,
“The performance of the President in the last two and half years suggests that if he wants to contest, l will certainly support him and l know that our party members feel the same about him.”
However, the governor of Nasarawa State, Tanko Al-Makura, expressed a slightly different opinion.

While responding to a similar question, he said,
“For anybody to preempt the consensus opinion of the people is to say the least not fair to the vision of our party.
“I can tell you if there is anything that is clandestine, the President will not honour it. So, let’s wait and see as we embark on these meetings.
“I believe the consensus and the preponderance of opinion of all party members will be what is good for this country and we have already known the will of this country, the future of this country as we are now as a country is associated with one person, who is impeccable, who has the greatest amount of integrity that you can find in any human being around; so, your guess is as good as mine.”
Also speaking on the issue, Okorocha, who is also Imo State governor, said only a decision by President Buhari to contest the 2019 election could make him drop his personal presidential ambition.

He said,
“If Mr. President wants to run for election, he will follow all the processes and if he is the person, we will all support him. In APC, there is no imposition of candidate.
“If Buhari is running, I will allow that man to continue but if he is not running, I won’t sacrifice my Presidential ambition. Mr. President is showing the right leadership and taking the very right steps and there is reconciliation going on even with nobody talking about it. There is the spirit of reconciliation and people understand their role.
“Our role is to make this party great and we are all trying to do that; but importantly, the governors have remained the pivot upon which this wheel of change has rotated so far. We have kept this party working and after this meeting, our congresses and convention will commence in the early part of next year and all party organs will be strengthened. We are in good mood and high spirits.”
During the meeting proper, one of the party members moved a motion asking that a vote of confidence be passed in the President and that he should be endorsed as the party’s candidate for the forthcoming presidential election.

This however failed to sail through. The party members felt that considering the fact that aggrieved members had yet to be pacified, doing so would escalate tension in the party and adversely affect its chances.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, confirmed this while speaking to newsmen after the NEC meeting.

Peter Rufai decries treatment by American embassy officials

Former Nigeria international, Peter Rufai has raised an alarm over his encounter with some security officials of the American Embassy in Lagos last week.

According to the former Nigeria goalkeeper, he was returning from a party organised by a family member in the early hours of Tuesday, October 24 when he drove past a stationary American Embassy armoured SUV near Alaka bus stop, in Surulere area of Lagos.

The moment I drove past them, they started pursuing me, from Alaka I went through under the stadium bridge through Adeniran Ogunsanya then to the Bode Thomas Police station where I stopped for my safety and to lay a complaint. “As they were pursuing me, they kept bashing the side of my car, like what we see in the movies. I became afraid of my life because I did not know who the occupants were.” “I want them to be punished for them to know that what they did was wrong,”Rufai said.

According to police sources, the American Embassy officials accused Rufai of brushing them and when they flagged him down, he failed to stop. “That resulted in the chase.” the source said.

The Public Relations Officer of the Bode Thomas Police Station. Olaride Famous Cole confirmed the incident to Vanguard saying,
“there was a minor traffic matter involving Peter Rufai and officials of the Embassy but the Divisional Police Officer was ready to settle the two parties amicably.

Nigerians consume 400 million condoms yearly

The Society of Family Health has said that Nigerians consume over 400 million condoms annually.

Its Managing Director, Bright Ekweremadu who disclosed this in Lagos on Tuesday at the launch of flex condom said,

“We have been in the business of condom production for over 30 years. We have done a lot of things in educating people to embrace abstinence with our zip-up campaign. There are obviously sexually active Nigerians who may not totally abstain from sex and this led to our alternative, particularly at this time when HIV/AIDs is prevalent in the country.
”What we are doing now is expanding choices for the sexually active Nigerians who are using condoms. So we have varieties of condoms with different features to make sex worth it, for those who will use the condom. We are not promoting sex. What we are promoting is responsible sex. If you know you cannot abstain, the best thing is to use condom; it’s safe for you and your partner.”

Lagos couple found dead in car-Woman's other lover claims he was the target

The family of Mr. Lukmon Olowu, who was found dead inside his Toyota Corolla car on Sunday, yesterday, said there was no way he could be the lover of the lady found dead with him. Lukmon, 39, married with two kids, was a licensing agent.

According to the family, Lukmon couldn’t have been making love to the woman, identified as Promise, inside his car. Promise was said to be from Cross River State, while her husband, Clement, a commercial bus driver, is from Edo State.

Lagos couple who died in car: Woman's other lover says he was the target

She had a child for Clement.

Lukmon’s family members, who gathered yesterday at their family house at 56, Shonola Street, Ogba, Lagos, said their son was murdered.

Contrary to earlier stories that Promise and Lukmon lived in the same compound, New Telegraph’s visit yesterday to Ogba proved that Promise lived at 48, Shonola Street, while Lukmon lived at Iju-Ishaga area of Lagos State. Lukmon’s younger brother, Idris Olowu, said Lukmon was not into any relationship with Promise.

Idris said:

“On Saturday evening, Lukmon and about six of his friends, went to a birthday party at Obawole, Iju area. After the party, Lukmon used his car to drive many of his friends to their residences, including Promise.
She also attended the birthday. Promise later called and pleaded with Lukmon to take her to her friend’s place around Excellence Hotel, located at Ogba. We understand that she called her husband, telling him that she would spend the night at her friend’s place, before she called and asked Lukmon to drive her there.
“The next thing we heard was that police called us that our brother was dead, that they had found Promise and Lukmon dead inside his car. We heard they were found naked. We all went to the police station to confirm the information.
Before the police drove the car to the station, they took pictures of their dead bodies. We saw a picture of our brother, naked and his two legs raised and placed on the dashboard. While the dead woman was half naked; she was sitting beside him at the front seat.
Her head rested lifelessly on the car seat headrest. “I can swear with my life, that my brother didn’t have anything to do with Promise. He was a responsible man, married with children. He didn’t take alcohol.

I learnt that woman was dating a guy called Femi. Promise’s husband, Clement, had warned the guy several times to stay away from his wife. Even, when the incident happened, the same Femi came to tell us that the trap was meant for him.”
Idris further disclosed that Promise lived close to a beer parlour.

It was alleged that many people knew the late woman. Idris further said:

“She called her husband that night, that she would spend the night at a friend’s place. It was not the first time Lukmon had used his car to convey Promise and other people to different places after parties.
The woman always goes to party with youths living in the area because she was a friendly type.”
Idris recalled that when they got to the police station on Sunday, Promise husband, Clement, said that the dead person should have been Femi, not Lukmon. Idris said:
“To my surprise, when we got to Area G Police Command, Promise’s husband said that he thought it was Femi that died. Even Femi’s phone was brought out from Promise’s handbag by her husband.”
NewTelegrah reports that when their correspondent visited Promise’s house yesterday evening, some of her neighbours said she had no job, but frequents the beer parlour where she used to drink beer.

One of the residents, who does not want her name mentioned, said:

“The death of the woman came to every one of us as a surprise. Promise had a child and had a friend at the beer parlour joint. She used to stay at that club with her friend, drinking, whenever her husband was not around. It was at this club that some men, including the one that died with her, met her.”
The resident further said:
“There was a day I warned her to stop going to the beer parlour because I had seen a situation where some of the men that came to the joint, would harass women.
That was why I warned her to stay away from the place to avoid what eventually happened now.”
When NewTelegraph’s correspondent approached Clement, who wore a T-Shirt and brown trousers, he snapped: “ No! No! I can’t talk for now.” He crossed to the other side of the road and disappeared.

People in the area said that the house he entered is his grandmother’s apartment. Attempts to speak with Femi failed too. When his phone was called, he picked and when NT correspondent told him the reason for calling, he cut off and switched off.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olarinde Famous-Cole, said that police were carrying out intensive investigations to know the circumstances surrounding the death of the couple. He added:
“ We got to know about this incident barely 24 hours ago. We are still investigating. We have to carry out autopsy to ascertain the cause of their death.”

Woman uses her own vaginal fluid as 'perfume' to attract men

A brave Cosmopolitan decided to wear her own vaginal fluid as a perfume and she reckons it worked.

Allison Ramirez headed to a bookstore to conduct some research into how and why she could attract men using her own pheromones.
"You basically just have to stick a finger down there and then use said finger to dab your 'natural perfume' on your pulse points, which seems, in my opinion, a bit uncivilized," she wrote.

According to the experts, this scent is a woman's "secret weapon" and courtesans of medieval Europe knew it, wearing some of their vaginal secretions by dabbing it behind their ears and necks and on their chests.

Trying to be a bit more civilised with her technique, Allison decided to make a perfume to use with her own fluid.

With the help of a specialist, she created a sweet-smelling scent with cedar, rose and civette.

Then came the vaginal fluid part...

"I used a long Q-tip to basically extract some residue from my vagina in order to use it for my perfume," she wrote.
"Because bodily fluids may not 'hold up,' I decided that my best bet was to dip this Q-tip — saturate it, really — in the perfume I'd created, dab it on my pulse points (neck, wrists, cleavage) and then hit the town in order to see what the results would be."

Surprisingly, the scent appears to have worked...

On the first night Allison tried out her new perfume, she met up with an old friend and ended up sharing a drunken kiss with him in a photo booth.

"Then all of a sudden, teeth !" she wrote. "It was funny, but it also kind of hurt."

She says he replied: "I can't help it. It's that scent you have."
The rest of the night was a blur, but his comment and actions were a pretty good indicator that my perfume was working.

Days later, Allison wore her scent for a date with a friend of a friend.

She claims he didn't say or do anything during the date to indicate it had worked but he did text her later saying he had fun and asking her out again.
