Court Sentences Deputy Governor To 10-Years Imprisonment For Bribery

A court in the south-western city of Liupanshui has sentenced to 10 years in jail a former vice governor of the populous province of Sichuan for bribery.

In a brief statement, the Chinese court said that Li Chengyun had taken bribes worth 6.36 million Yuan ($933,250).

It was not possible to reach a legal or family representative for comment.


Sichuan, famed for its spicy cuisine, has emerged as a focus of Xi Jinping’s crackdown on graft, since it was a power base for Zhou Yongkang, the country’s once powerful domestic security boss.

Zhou was jailed for life in 2015 for corruption, and dozens of his associates have also been arrested, many in Sichuan, where he was Communist Party boss from 1999 to 2002.

According to his official biography, Li spent his entire working life in Sichuan, where he was party chief in the provincial city of Deyang when Zhou was in charge of Sichuan.

19-Year Old Rapd At Gunpoint Sentenced To Death

19-year-old woman has been sentenced to death by village elders in Pakistan’s Punjab province for allegedly having an illicit relationship with her cousin after she accused him of raping her at gunpoint.

According to Hindustimes, the incident happened on Friday in Rajanpur, a rural district about 400 kilometres from provincial capital Lahore.

Shumaila was said to have escaped from the village after she came to know of the panchayat’s decision and reported the matter to police.


The woman has denied having any illicit relationship with her cousin Khalil Ahmed and alleged that he raped her at gunpoint when she was sleeping at her house.

“I could not raise an alarm as Ahmed was holding a gun. But the panchayat refused to accept my statement and declared that I wilfully slept with him,” she told the police.

She said the panchayat did not take action against Ahmed.

Fearing for her life, she approached the police on Saturday.

“We have registered a FIR against the panchayat members and will take them into custody for declaring her kaari (liable to death either by stoning or else),” Hasnain said.

The SHO of Fazilpur Police Station, Qaisar Hasnain, said Shumaila’s father said in a statement that he was forced to accept the panchayat’s decision.

“Since the panchayat declared her liable to be killed he had to accept the decision as it was the tradition of his village,” he said.

The police have sent Shumaila to a government safe house for women in Rajanpur.

“Honour” killings and death sentences are usually sanctioned through the panchayat system in Pakistani villages, but they have no legal standing.

A bride-to-be said her hen party was "ruined" after the group of women were kicked from a Jet2 flight to Majorca.

Emma Green, 35, described her total shock at being asked to leave the plane because they were wearing black t-shirts with the slogan 'Bitches On Tour' written on the front in pink.

Speaking from their hotel in Majorca, social worker Emma told the Leicester Mercury:

"It has completely ruined the whole experience.
"We have lost a day already and everybody is really tired from flying in from different airports. Some didn't land until 2am this morning.
"Its going to be really hard to enjoy ourselves now. We are just gutted that it came to this when there was no need.
"Nobody even spoke to me about the T-shirts, the first I knew we were being kicked off the flight."

We are all professional women mainly in our late 30s and 40s. I work with mental health patients and I am not a trouble-maker. "We did not deserve to be treated like we did and would have covered up on the plane if we were all asked to do so. 

"But the word bitch is a pretty mild curse as far as they go anyway, I hardly think the T-shirts were that offensive in the first place." 

 Emma is due to marry fiance Aaron Bateman, 44, in 11 weeks time on August 26.

 "Part of me doesn't even want to get married now, I just feel like something will end up going wrong on the day."My hens have had to fork out an extra £2,000 to come on this holiday and that's just not right. We want an apology and compensation from Jet2 because we have been treated appallingly."

 Jet2 allege the women "ignored" repeated warnings and they were forced to take the decision to "remove" the group from the flight from East Midlands Airport to Mallorca.

Emma said the police seemed confused at how far things had been escalated and she added:

"The police looked bewildered by it all, I think they knew it was ridiculous.
