AbOriginal Theatre presents Grip Am !

October 1 doesn’t just celebrate our independence but is also a time to reflect on how far we have truly come and where we go from here. The late playwright, Prof. Ola Rotimi, wrote Grip Am! in this vein to address issues of class, power, change, and cultural diversity. With October 1 upon us yet again AbOriginal Theatre, the theatre company of AbOriginal Productions and producer of the all-time musical classic Oluronbi: The Musical, invites everyone to come together and experience this raucous comedy.

Grip Am! is a well-known theatrical work that is symbolic of the power dynamic between the hardworking “every man”, who does his best to secure his little bit of heaven, and the rich and powerful, who try to walk all over him.

Grip Am! is a humorous reminder of the value—and power—of the individual and about conjugal strife, supernatural opportunity, and revenge. It depicts the difficulties in a poor farming household being compounded by external factors, when an unexpected source provides opportunity, but vengeance and retribution are the order of the day.

Directed by one of Nigeria’s foremost avant-garde directors, Leke Gbolade, and featuring a diverse cast comprising critically acclaimed and commercially renowned thespians, including Omonor (V-Monologues), Najite Dede (Meet The Ojos), and Kenny Ayeni (Oluronbi: The Musical), Grip Am! is not just guaranteed entertainment but inspired entertainment. Don’t miss this satirical expression of societal struggle.
